As a little girl I remember all too well having my hair put up in bunches using elastic bands! If you have ever had this done you will know how much it hurts - you feel the roots of your hair are going to be ripped out of your scalp!
It wasn’t easy being a little girl with long hair in our house, when you saw that hair brush coming towards you, the temptation to run was very strong. As you sat there with you hair being brushed, your head going in every direction at once, I just gritted my teeth and waited for it to be over as no amount of complaining would make it stop.
During the course of the day with all the running around, the bunches did loosen; and when at the end of the day they were removed, again the pain as the elastic did not want to relinquish its hold on my hair and so were tugged loose.
Today of course we don’t use elastic bands, children of today are at least spared that horror. Have a look at these lovely clips and hair-bands that I found, absolutely beautiful, from Pitchoun, (above) which is a French term of endearment meaning “little one”.
I’m a big fan of Belle and Boo; “Boo loved to watch Belle’s beautiful bow flutter in the breeze”. A delightful set of 3 bows to make your child’s hair pretty as a Belle & Boo picture! Contains two small and one large bow to finish off your outfit and they come in four colours. You can also get a Belle and Boo Alice band and that too comes in four colours.
I really like this companies hairbands and clips, very sweet, for girls of all ages, Daisy Dots Boutique. The founder, Margaret, proud mum of 7 year old Eilidh, who was the inspiration behind Daisy Dots Boutique, had great difficulty in finding pretty hair clips for her when she was born and so in 2008 she started to make them myself and the company has gone from strength to stength.
All these hair accessories are really charming and whether your little ones are running around in the garden or attending a wedding - there is one just right for every occasion.
Be gentle with your little ones…
